#21, Fayette County

I'm trying to post a few courthouses from the summer before all the leaves are on the ground. Here is the courthouse for Fayette County, in Connersville, IN.

Rush County, #70

I took a little trip to eastern Indiana and snapped some photos of a few courthouses. In Rushville, you'll find this beauty and a Pizza King!

#82, Vanderburgh County

Where do I begin?  I remember visiting this courthouse in Evansville, IN back in 1996 or so during Halloween. The courthouse was home to the the "Haunted Catacombs." When I accepted my first TV newsphotographer position (in Evansville, May 1999) the courthouse rotunda was one of the first things you see of  the downtown skyline from the Lloyd Expressway. I was in love...

This courthouse may have planted a seed to do this whole project. It was a great assignment when the assignment editor said that some b-roll of the the old courthouse was needed. I surely spent too much time shooting video for a :30 VO. This old building has a certain draw, and I know I am under its spell.

Unfortunately, the courthouse isn't used to for its intended purpose. In the 70s, Vanderburgh County and Evansville built a civic center to hold most of the government offices and courts.  Its a shame, because the Civic Center does not capture my attention nearly as much as the old courthouse.

Even on a grey, Indiana afternoon, she's as pretty as ever.

I feel these photographs do no justice for the size and beauty of the old courthouse.

Evansville Icemen fans cross the street in front of the Civic Center on their way to the Ford Center.

Brown County, #7

Made a stop in the quiet town of Nashville, the county seat of Brown County in Indiana. Nashville and the entire Brown County are very popular the tourists during the fall season. I made the stop in the early summer and there were not too many people out. So, without any further delay...here's the courthouse.

Nashville, IN is the county seat of Brown County.

Giving the curb a manicure.

Nashville is known for its artistic community, inns, shops, and wonderful autumn colors. The courthouse is just the way the folks of Brown County want it...simple.

#81, Union County

I made a trip to western Ohio recently and picked up a few courthouses in Indiana. Here's Union County, the county seat Liberty is located just south of Richmond near the Indiana-Ohio state line.

Pizza King on the left. This place seems to dominate towns in the central part of the state!

Indiana is #1...in some cases.

I feel if you are a guilty party, this would be a very intimidating building to walk into...

but, if you are seeking justice, may be its a reassuring view.
The count stands at 56 courthouses photographed. I have behind in posting 12 including one courthouse to edit. I think progress has been a little slow this summer, but I think I'll have them all finished before the state bicentennial.

#30, Hancock County

Here are a few photos to cool you off as he start to hit the 90's this week in central Indiana. Just east of Indianapolis, off of I-70 is Greenfield, the count seat of Hancock County. Hancock County's courthouse is gorgeous! Near one the entrances, stands a statue of beloved Hoosier poet, James Whitcomb Riley. Riley was from Greenfield, his home is just a few blocks away from the courthouse. James Whitcomb Riley is named after one of his father's friends, James Whitcomb. James Whitcomb was the eighth governor of Indiana and considered one of the most successful at the post.

These photos were taken during a sledding trip during SPRING BREAK! I had to bribe my daughter with hot chocolate to travel to Greenfield to snap these photos.

I just loved these doors.

James Whitcomb Riley.

Wonderful carvings in the limestone.
The James Whitcomb Riley Hospital for Children is named after Riley. He is buried in Indianapolis at Crown Hill Cemetery. People toss coins on his grave and those coins are collected and donated to the hospital.
